Nomad sign new WiFi and multimedia contract with T-Mobile Poland

press release

(Newcastle upon Tyne, 30 January 2014) Nomad Digital chosen as technology provider by T-Mobile Poland for largest Eastern Europe WiFi and Multimedia deployment to date.

PKP Intercity customers will have access to WiFi, movies and games, as the train operating company announced the signing of a new WiFi and multimedia contract with T-Mobile Poland, who has chosen Nomad Digital as its wireless technology provider.

Set to be one of the biggest WiFi deployments on passenger trains in Eastern Europe, PKP has committed to providing its Intercity customers with access to WiFi and multimedia services, with a pledge to update 10% of passenger media content every month.

“The model of implementing the service sets the standard for global markets. Our chief focus was to ensure the highest quality of the delivered product,” highlights Marcin Celejewski, CEO of PKP Intercity for trade. “Thanks to that, our passengers will be the first to receive high speed internet, video on demand, access to TV series, movies, cartoons and games via laptops, tablets or smartphones,” he adds.

WiFi access will be provided within 90 days of launching the installation in the first 30 train cars. In total, T-Mobile Poland will provide access to the services in 300 passenger cars, which will include trains operating on the most popular domestic and international routes.

Modelled on some of the world’s leading wireless infrastructure projects, never before has Eastern Europe seen a transport WiFi installation of this size. All train cars will be equipped with modems, internal and external antennas, with all the equipment and installation provided by T-Mobile Poland and Nomad Digital, the global leader in wireless solutions to the transportation sector.

“We are the only company to provide data transfer on rail routes throughout the whole country. We have the appropriate network and capacities to implement this project to the highest standard” said Miroslav Rakowski, CEO of T-Mobile Poland.

Five entities participated in the negotiated tender procedure, with T-Mobile Poland winning the contract through a bid that offered a solution that met the parameters required for services and content.

T-Mobile Poland chose Nomad on the strength of its solution, as well as its global experience in delivering innovation and technologically advanced wireless solutions, to some of the world’s largest fleets.

Speaking of Nomad’s selection as the wireless technology and installation provider, EMEAI General Manager, said: “Nomad is proud to be playing a part in offering PKP Intercity passengers the latest in wireless technology and multimedia entertainment – as well as working towards creating one of the largest and most innovative examples of wireless technology for transport in Eastern Europe.”
