(Newcastle upon Tyne, 14 July 2014) Nomad Digital has completed the first phase of its integrated wireless technology deployment for PKP’s Intercity fleet.
Contracted by T-Mobile, Nomad has led the design, build and implementation of an end-to-end solution that is set to be the largest Passenger WiFi and multimedia deployment in Eastern Europe.
In January 2014, T-Mobile Poland announced that it had been chosen to introduce passenger WiFi and multimedia services to 300 passenger cars for PKP’s Intercity fleet, which covers trains operating on the most popular domestic and international routes in and from Poland.
“Offering WiFi for PKP Intercity passengers is a confirmation of the highest quality of our network, both in the cities and also in sparsely populated areas, along which the trains are moving. Hot Spot T-Mobile service is a huge convenience for the customers, but also a great advertisement of T-Mobile network”.
– said, T-Mobile Poland Member of the Board.
Nomad was chosen by T-Mobile Poland to lead the connectivity deployment, which integrates leading Nomad solutions such as; Passenger WiFi, multimedia platforms, portals and end-to-end content delivery. Nomad achieved its first goal of providing WiFi access to 30 wagons within the first 90 days – and is now working towards the planned completion of a further 270 wagons within the first 10 months of the contract signing (January 14).
Reflecting on the completion of the Wi-Fi deployment on 30 passenger cars covering the Intercity route, Nomad’s EMEAI General Manager, said, “The first phase completion is a testament to Nomad’s experience and innovation; “Standing as one of the most ambitious and ground-breaking deployments in Eastern Europe, it was Nomad’s solid global reputation and superb track record that enabled this opportunity – and I feel the successful and timely first phase execution emphasises this greatly”.
The second and final phase of the PKP Intercity deployment will see the completion of multimedia services deployed in all 300 passenger cars, which is scheduled for later in the year. Speaking of PKP Intercity’s plans and benefits for passengers, PKP CEO, said “The model of implementing the service sets the standard for global markets. Our chief focus was to ensure the highest quality of the delivered product – thanks to that, our passengers will be the first to receive high speed internet, video on demand, access to TV series, movies, cartoons and games via laptops, tablets or smartphones”.
