(Newcastle upon Tyne, 18 May 2016) Nomad Digital, the world’s leading provider of wireless connectivity and ICT solutions to the rail sector, is delighted that its Global HR Director has joined a panel of expert judges for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) North East Human Resources & Development (HR&D) awards.
Nomad’s Global HR Director, Dawn Robinson, has been with the company almost two years, following time with Sage Plc and across in Finland with Outotec, and was selected due to her experience and expertise in the HR, development and learning environment. She joins Andy Holgate (Director at Holgate HR), Sue O’Donovan (Managing Consultant HR, Senior Appointments, at Nigel Wright Group), Ayshea Robertson (Group HR Director at Bellway Plc) and Nicola Sharp (HR Director at Ubisoft Reflections Ltd), to assess the credentials of the CIPD award entries this year.
Before her time with Nomad, Dawn headed up Sage Plc’s HR team, winning the CIPD regional innovation award back in 2008 for a leadership and management programme called ‘Enable’.
She said “I'm delighted to be invited to judge such a prestigious regional award. It's really rewarding to be on the other side, judging peers in the HR sector. It also demonstrates the long way Nomad has come in terms of setting a learning and development programme, as I can see some common threads of best practice and engagement between the entries and our programmes. This reaffirms our direction as a company and our commitment to driving Nomad’s leadership and development agenda forward.
“The introduction of Samantha Link – our Talent and Development Manager – is evidence of how we wish to support this progress.”
The ‘Enable’ programme was built around nearly two years of leadership and management work which focused on people engagement. Much of Dawn’s experience in this area has been brought through to Nomad, helping to embed a brand new set of company values since her arrival. Regular global company ‘Town Halls’ mean staff get frequent opportunities to interact directly with the global leadership team, while a ‘buddy’ mentoring system has proven very popular with staff.
Dawn continued “Although Nomad is comparatively still quite young as a business, we are certainly not too far away from joining the likes of those more established companies competing in the CIPD awards.
“I’ve been on the entrant side, now on the judging side - and my aspiration is to be back on the entrant side again with Nomad, shining a spotlight on some of the great advancements we have made with our colleagues such as our people road-map initiatives which go right through our business.
“This awards process provides an opportunity for me to benchmark good practice and to mix with other talented HR professionals. I'm really looking forward to the awards night when those participating get a chance to celebrate all their hard work.”
Jo Thackray, Global Talent Manager Sage Group Plc and CIPD North East Branch Secretary, said “We were delighted to have brought Dawn on board as one of the panel of guest judges for the North East’s tenth annual CIPD awards. Having worked with Dawn previously at Sage, and herself being a previous winner of a CIPD award, we knew she would bring the breadth and depth of experience and professionalism to be an independent judge. This means that as a CIPD branch we can be reassured that every application in the categories she judged were reviewed by a respected expert in the HR&D field.”
The award winners will be announced at the Newcastle Marriott Hotel on 16 June.
